Dog Loves Books

Dog Loves Books

Dog loves books is from the highly regarded author Louise Yates, Winner of the Roald Dahl funny prize award.

Dog loves books. He loves the smell of them. He loves the feel of them but best of all and most of all he loves the stories inside them and so does his best friend Pug. Dog loves books because every book is an adventure!

Dog Loves Books stars a sweet and funny double act of adventurers, Dog and Pug. Dog is cool and calm and unflappable. Pug is enthusiastic and practical, albeit in a slightly wonky way.

Together they are a lovable duo who like nothing better than getting into a good book. At the end of the working day, or at lunch time or just whenever they fancy a break, Dog’s bookshop closes and Dog opens a book that takes he and Pug off on an exciting adventure, which could be anywhere and with anyone. But they still get home in time for tea and dog biscuits. It’s amazing what you can learn from a book. The aim of the show is to tell great stories and encourage reading, especially amongst boys.

Komixx Delivers 52-Episode ‘Dog Loves Books’ Animated Children’s Series to BBC, ABC Australia and Kika

by admin 17th July 2020

Komixx Entertainment has completed delivery of its 52-episode series ‘Dog Loves Books’ for BBC CBeebies, ABC Australia and German children’s network KiKA, featuring voices from award-winning British comedy actors John Thomson and Craig Cash.

Based upon the Roald Dahl Funny Prize award-winning book by Louise Yates, the new 2D animation series is aimed at kids aged 4-7. The Fast Show and Cold Feet star John Thomson (Pete) features as ‘Dog’, while his best friend ‘Pug’ is voiced by Gogglebox and The Royle Family favourite Craig Cash (Dave).

The 52 seven-minute episodes were co-produced with Flix Facilities in association with Flix Facilities IOM, which also brought equity investment to the project. With delivery of the first episodes in February, it debuted on CBeebies at the beginning of March. Overcoming challenges posed by the pandemic, episodes 26 to 52 were still delivered according to schedule to CBeebies, ABC and KiKA at the end of May, with post-production undertaken in full compliance with the tight lock-down regulations using remote virtual working by the studio team.

Dog Loves Books is now being marketed worldwide by BBC Studios Distribution.

Developed by Komixx Entertainment Head of Development Melanie Halsall, the series also includes characters from celebrated voice-over artists Jimmy Hibbert and Kathryn MacColl. Komixx Entertainment Head of Animation Production Richard Randolph is the Series Producer, Alan Gilbey is the Head Writer and Vincent James directed the series.

Melanie Halsall said: “Dog Loves Books tells the story of a loveable duo who like nothing better than getting into a good book, quite literally. Dog and Pug simply love books, from the smell to the touch to the sound of them, but most of all because of the adventures inside them. This series is a celebration of literature and of books, taking young audiences into imaginary situations that come alive in worlds hidden between book covers.”

The series is the latest delivered by the children’s division of independent film and TV production company Komixx Entertainment. Komixx is responsible for two other global successes in children’s entertainment, in the guise of Toby’s Travelling Circus and Wanda and the Alien. Both series were earlier examples of Komixx and Flix working together and both have been sold to TV networks worldwide

Ed Glauser, Komixx Group CEO and series Executive Producer, said: “While we have developed our Komixx business into other areas of young-adult and family entertainment across multi-media channels, we have always been proud of our original work for pre-school and young children’s audiences. Dog Loves Books is the latest and is hitting TV screens in the UK and Germany while our partners at BBC Studios are also attracting huge interest from broadcasters worldwide.”

Leo Casserly, Managing Director of Flix Facilities, said: “Given the problems posed by a global pandemic it is testament to the hard work, dedication and talent of all involved that delivery of such high quality has been achieved both on time and within budget.”

Komixx Entertainment is currently developing a range of pre-school, children’s, young-adult, and family entertainment. It’s next production hits Netflix screens on July 24, with the global launch of The Kissing Booth 2, the sequel to its blockbuster smash hit film that first aired as a Netflix-original movie in 2018, starring Joey King and Jacob Elordi.

Established in 2007, Komixx Entertainment is an independent film and TV production company that holds a significant portfolio of original and adapted rights. Headquartered in London, expansion has since seen Komixx establish offices in Los Angeles, USA, and Perth, in Western Australia.

The Komixx Media Group acquires, develops, and produces feature films, TV series and other multi-media content for kids to young-adult audiences with fast evolving tastes and preferences. Komixx uses trend analysis, evaluation of social and behavioural patterns and in-depth audience research to ensure that each production is developed with creativity at its heart and wrapped with a strong commercial and financial strategy.
