Netflix revealed the ‘drop date’ among its new movie schedule for summer 2021 as The Kissing Booth stars Joey King and Joel Courtney reveal the secret.  It can be viewed here.

News of the forthcoming release of The Kissing Booth 3 has since generated huge global excitement on Netflix’s social media channels – among 26.9 million followers on Instagram and 11.6 million fans on Twitter. So popular were the first movies that The Kissing Booth also has its own, dedicated Instagram account – TheKissingBoothNetflix with some 1.7 million followers.

The first two movies in the blockbuster teenage romcom were among the most successful ever aired on Netflix, topping the online broadcaster’s movie charts.

Filming of The Kissing Booth 3 was completed in secret alongside the second movie in 2019, on location in South Africa and California, and has since been prepared for release.

It tracks the summer before Elle Evans (Joey King) heads to college and she has a big, life-changing secret. Elle got accepted into both Harvard, where she could be with her boyfriend Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi), and into Berkeley, where her life-long best friend Lee (Joel Courtney) is going. Which college will Elle choose? Will she do the unthinkable and break rule #19 ‘Always go to the same school as your bestie’?

“The tremendous love from the fans for the original movie led to The Kissing Booth 2 and, in total secrecy, filming of The Kissing Booth 3 at the same time,” says Ed Glauser, Komixx Group CEO. “We had to keep that secret for a long time, not least during the Coronavirus lockdown, but we couldn’t be prouder to enhance our tremendous partnership with Netflix with this third movie of The Kissing Booth franchise.”

The full cast of Joey King, Joel Courtney, Jacob Elordi, Taylor Zakhar Perez, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Meganne Young & Molly Ringwald all return for The Kissing Booth 3 – which also brings back director Vince Marcello, who again wrote the screenplay with Jay Arnold. The movies are all based on The Kissing Booth books, written by young Welsh author Beth Reekles.

Producers of The Kissing Booth 3 are once again Marcello, Michele Weisler, Ed Glauser and Andrew Cole-Bulgin. Executive producers are Joey King and Adam Friedlander.

The Kissing Booth became a hit movie for teenage audiences when it premiered in 2018 and The Kissing Booth 2also topped the Netflix top 10 movie chart in markets worldwide. Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos described The Kissing Booth as “one of the most-watched movies in the US, and maybe in the world”.

The Kissing Booth 2 scooped two of the screen entertainment industry’s biggest awards at the end of 2020 when named ‘The Comedy Movie of 2020’ and lead star Joey King ‘The Comedy Movie Star of 2020’ at the E! People’s Choice Awards. The awards recognised artists across music, movies, TV, and pop culture as well as stars of sport, social media, comedians, and beauty influencers. The only awards voted on entirely by viewers, fans cast over one BILLION votes to decide their best of the best.
