Press Release

UK and LA based independent film and TV producer, Komixx Entertainment Ltd, today announces it has optioned the worldwide screen rights to the award-winning CHERUB Series, written by the renowned best-selling author, Robert Muchamore.

Komixx has obtained the rights to develop all 18 novels in the exciting young adult thriller series, including graphic novels, for a drama series. The deal builds on Komixx’s reputation as a leading producer of exciting YA TV and film adaptations both in the US and UK.

The CHERUB Series follows the undercover missions of a group of teenage secret agents who work for a division of the British Security Service called CHERUB. These Cherubs live in the real world, slipping under the adult radar and getting information that sends criminals and terrorists to jail. When CHERUB kids go undercover, no one suspects that they are trained professionals, working to infiltrate criminal organisations that have eluded MI5 and the police for years.

The first book in The CHERUB Series, The Recruit, was first published in 2004 by Hodder Children’s Books and the series has since sold more than ten million copies worldwide and been translated into 25 languages.

Andrew Cole-Bulgin, Group Chief Creative Officer and Head of Film & TV, Komixx Entertainment, says; “It’s a fantastic opportunity to take on an exciting and gritty thriller series that has already been breaking taboos for young adult literature, and create a dynamic new drama series for this thrill-seeking generation. CHERUB stands alone as an internationally successful and globally loved series and to be able to work with renowned authors such as Robert, is a testament to how far Komixx has developed as a company over the last few years.”

Robert Muchamore author of The CHERUB Series, says; "Over the years I’ve met many people interested in dramatising the CHERUB series, but the team at Komixx had a unique grasp of the material. I’m confident we can produce a series that will satisfy hardcore fans, and draw a huge new audience to the world of CHERUB.

The commissioning agreement was negotiated by Emily Hayward Whitlock at the Artists Partnership in association with Clare Pearson at Eddison Pearson.

Komixx has a strong track record in selecting and developing film and TV for the children and young adult market. The CHERUB Series will add to the raft of bestselling young adult fiction rights currently in production with Komixx, including teen novels The Kissing Booth by teenage Wattpad sensation Beth Reekles, which has been filmed as an Original Feature for Netflix. Additional YA productions in development include The Winter Horses by New York Times best-selling author Phillip Kerr, YA thriller series ITCH by writer and broadcaster Simon Mayo and the MONSTER REPUBLIC trilogy from Ben Horton at Hothouse Fiction.
