KOMIXX ENTERTAINMENT LAUNCHES APAC OFFICE
Komixx appoints Amanda Morrison to drive expansion in Australia and Asia
London and Los Angeles based independent film and TV producer, Komixx Entertainment, today announces it has expanded its operations into Australia, to bring its unique approach of identifying and developing local IP for TV and Film production to the Asia-Pacific (APAC) market. Former RKPIX founder and leading figure in the APAC TV and entertainment industry, Amanda Morrison, will lead the Australian (Perth) office and drive the company’s strategy in the region.
With more than 20 years’ experience in the international transmedia production industry, including media advisory roles for Australian government agencies Screenwest and Screen NSW, Amanda has an established track record in producing popular content within the APAC market. She currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors, for The Centre For Interdisciplinary Arts and PVI collective in Western Australia.
Prior to her new role, Amanda founded Transmedia For Change, an independent documentary and children's production company that develops, finances and produces transmedia production. She has previously produced independent content for international distributors and broadcasters, such as NTL and Channel 5.
With the APAC SVOD market predicted to reach $6.4bn* in the next five years, Komixx has identified a growing demand for content in the region thanks to the increasing competition between local SVOD services, which has been a motivating factor behind the company’s new office in Australia.
The APAC office, based at Open Field Arts Innovation in Perth, Western Australia, will focus on developing and producing local content across scripted, non-scripted and digital formats for the region, adding to its internationally successful portfolio of kids, family and young adult content which includes the animations Toby’s Travelling Circus, Wanda and the Alien, and its most recent Netflix commission The Kissing Booth.
Andrew Cole-Bulgin, joint CEO and Head of Film & TV, Komixx Media Group, says “We are extremely excited to be bringing Amanda on board to help us drive this exciting new chapter in Komixx’s international story. The Australian office serves as a natural progression to our global content strategy and we’re thrilled to be making our mark in the APAC region. Our growth here is a response to the demand for new and exciting content in Asia and Amanda is the perfect person to lead this charge. Her unique international perspective within both the traditional and new media content production markets, ensures we’ll have some exciting content emerging from the Perth office very soon.”
Amanda Morrison says “I am really excited to be founding Komixx Entertainment Australia. As producers of high quality content, I have wanted to collaborate with the Komixx team for a long time as they truly understand the substantial disruption the global film and TV industry is facing by digital technologies and business models. We all agree it is critical to harness the significant opportunity that the digital revolution, mobile and video proliferation represents.
“Globally, Western Australia is uniquely well placed within the Asia Pacific region to capture this opportunity. Perth is the ideal content production hub to service global forecast demand, and there is clear opportunity here considering current funding offered by ScreenWest, Screen Australia, and International Treaty arrangements for production.”
Headquartered in London, Komixx has existing offices in Los Angeles and studio facilities in Manchester with it’s Mackinnon & Saunders Digital Studios. Komixx develops and produces animated children’s content and both scripted and non-scripted live action family and prime-time entertainment. The company recently relocated its headquarters in London to Neal’s Yard, Covent Garden.
Komixx has a strong track record in identifying exciting IP with commercial potential for pre-school, family and young adult authored content, to develop it into TV and film. The Kissing Booth is the latest in a line of bestseller adaptions from Komixx and was recently commissioned by Netflix. The company’s portfolio also includes The Winter Horses by globally-renowned author Philip Kerr, YA thriller series ITCH and the Emma Pass novels The Fearless and Acid. Komixx’s flagship show Toby’s Travelling Circus has been commissioned for a second series by Channel 5 and is available across 30 territories worldwide.
